Bike show 2000

By :Stuart Grattan

Well it's that time of year again and the yearly pilgrimage to the NEC has happened again and 35 people in total went with the club to the show. The coach left the depot at 07:45 for the short trip to the clubhouse but as soon as we got to the M3 we came to a stop due to an accident further up the motorway. We got to the club house about 08:25 (25 minutes late), but at least every one was their.
We then went on the back roads to Twyford to rejoin a slow moving motorway precession. Once on the A34 we were up to speed again. Next stop the services at Newbury to collect Simon. Got to Witchurch junction and gave Simon a ring to say we were nearly their. Next thing we knew we had gone past the services. I blame Colin talking too much and distracting met!!! (only joking). So a quick call to Simon to get him to meet us at the A34 / M4 services. This time was used for a quick stop for a cigarette break and Simon to catch up with us. Once all on board we were off on the last leg to the NEC. We arrived at the NEC at 11:30 and arranged to meet every one back at the coach at 16:30 for the trip home.
It was then in to the show. We went Straight in as we had our tickets already. The usual manufactures were there with all the usual clothing Helmets and accessories stands, not as big as in previous years but there was something for every one. The main thing that was noticed was the lack of vintage machines and the auto jumble type stands, also trade accessories for bolt on bits for your bikes seamed to be few and far between. There was an arena display of stadium supercross that lasted 20 minuets and gave people an insight to this up and coming part of the sport.
So on the whole the show was for you if you were looking for a new scooter or motorcycle. The time to go came round very quickly and every one was back on the coach early so we left before our due departure time (this must be a first). Just a thank you to Summerfield coaches for the transport and every one who came along and kept to all the times. Hope to see you all and next year 8-18th November 2001.
