Dad enjoyed a long racing career as a privateer, riding under the badge of S&DMCC, you can clearly see the clubs insignia on his helmet in some of these pictures.

He still owns this helmet and one day hopes to return it to the club personally.

During the 60's and 70's he raced with other S&DMCC Club Members, Tony Godfrey, Len Harfield, Peter Hughes, (sadly killed at Oliver's Mount) and George Collis (sadly killed IOM 1970). Anybody who has ridden a motorcycle on the IOM, yet alone raced one, will appreciate the danger to riders at virtually every millimetre of the circuit.

His long career took him to nearly every racing circuit in the country , the Isle of man, Spain, and a few other places I'm sure he's forgotten about.

He has raced Thruxton Bonneville's, 700cc Norton Atlas, AJS7R's (borrowed from the show room, don't tell anyone), early Ducati Desmo's and Suzuki's, and his best achievement was a 4th in the senior TT of 1970.

He raced against all the greats of the era, Hailwood, Agostini, and was told to make himself scarce after riding a borrowed (road going) 750cc Thruxton Bonniville, all the way to Snetterton, then competing in the 750cc production race, and finishing 2 ft behind the first placed Triumph works rider.

Dad finally gave up racing at Thruxton when he was continually outpaced by the influx of Yamaha TZ's , "I could catch them on the bends but they took of like rockets on the straights.". So he decided it was time to give up or spend a lot of money on a Yamaha.

Graham Hunter emigrated to the south Island of New Zealand in Sept 74 and still causes motorcycling havoc at the age of 65 on a BMW R850R, and an XL185 which he keeps just to remember what its like to fall off, (and he does so approx every six months, doing some stupid stunt, trying to keep up with the younger riders)
